Gu김건_PI_New_고화질n Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). He received his B.S. (2009) and M.S. (2011) degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Yonsei University, Seoul, and his M.S. degree in Mechanical engineering and Ph.D. degree (2016) in Civil and Environmental engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. In 2017-2020, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His research interests include developing non-traditional, bio-inspired polymeric materials that possess unprecedented properties and functions for addressing grand challenges in the material engineering field. His research also focuses on developing advanced ultrasonic technologies and applications for the study of damage diagnosis and mechano-chemical activations at multiple scales. He is a recipient of several awards, including the Outstanding Paper Award (2015) from the Journal, Materials and Structure, the Early Career Investigator Grant from the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), and the Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL) Research Grant from the UIUC. With two patents, He published more than 20 first-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, including his recent publications in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Science (PNAS) and the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
